Although it remains a puzzling disorder, the medical and surgical management of patients with Crohn disease is far more rational and successful today than it was in the past (1), and splendid efforts have been made to educate patients and their families about the illness and the need for their cooperation in its handling (2). No major etiologic advances have been recorded as yet, but studies continue to appear regularly and add considerably to our knowledge of the setting and responsiveness of this chronic disease.
