- W4242172595 abstract "The standardization samples of the French adaptation of the Wechsler Adult Intelligence Scale-3rd ed. (WAIS-III; N = 1,104) and the Wechsler Adult Intelligence Scale-Revised (N = 1,000) were used to study the evolution of the subtests scores across the adult age range. Horn and Cattell's (1966) model of fluid and crystallized intelligence was questioned as framework for understanding the aging effects observed on the subtests scores. The evolution curves of the subtest scores across the age groups do not support the unique reference to this model. Moreover, it does not provide a deep understanding of the nature of the processes underlying the performance decline. Current research showed that the slowing of processing speed, the attention problems, and the less efficient executive control of the working memory, are involved in the decline of the cognitive performances. Analyzing the scores across the age groups for four of the WAIS-III subtests, we showed that an interaction of these different factors would provide a better explanation of the evolution of the subtests scores with aging." @default.
