- W4242800711 abstract "Esophageal disease can be acquired or congenital. Esophageal strictures may occur secondary to previous foreign bodies, gastroesophageal reflux, or prior administration of drugs such as doxycycline and clindamycin, but many cases are idiopathic. Esophageal masses fall into three categories: extramural or periesophageal masses that actually involve structures external to the esophagus, intramural masses, and intraluminal masses. Masses in the area of the pylorus can cause outflow obstruction, resulting in gastric distension. Feline dysautonomia results from degeneration of ganglia in the autonomic nervous system and has been associated with megaesophagus, aspiration pneumonia, esophageal dysfunction, gastric and/or intestinal distension, megacolon, and bladder enlargement. Some gastrointestinal foreign bodies are radiopaque and identifiable with some imagination. Gastrointestinal masses or thickened walls can be sampled using ultrasound-guided aspiration or biopsy." @default.
