- W4242877835 abstract "Clark Terry was born on December 14, 1920, in St. Louis, the seventh of eleven children, and was nicknamed John. This chapter describes his budding love for jazz, which was not easily acceptable to his father. Despite his father's hatred towards jazz, he began learning it, listening to it on Didley's crystal radio. He was immensely inspired by Duke Ellington, and ever since he was a child he longed to be a part of his band. He started with forming a street band together with his friends and used to practice while his father was away. The street band became popular among the little population of his town, until when, he realized that his real dreams were different from those of his band members. The real breakthrough came when his neighbors bought him a CG Conn Trumpet, which became his first instrument." @default.
