- W4243319125 abstract "Early cranial reconstruction in craniosynostosis, particularly when there is only single-suture involvement, often provides a single operative solution for these more “simple” craniofacial anomalies. Multiple suture involvement, most notably Apert and Crouzon syndrome, defy a single operative solution based on our current understanding of the sutural problem, and multiple operations may be required over time. In either case, osteotomies, ostectomies, and repositioning and reshaping of the cranial vault is done with the use of some form of bone fixation. Given the dynamics of the underlying growing brain, the potential for bony regeneration from the dura (particularly in patients under 1 year of age) and the containment of the overlying scalp closure, the need for absolutely “rigid” bone fixation is not necessary. Semirigid or short-term position-maintaining bone fixation is often all that is needed. It has yet to be proved that absolutely rigid stabilization and long-term maintanence of intraoperative position necessarily results in superior long-term aesthetic outcomes." @default.
