A computational study of the mechanistic details of a recently reported ynamide-mediated condensation of carboxylic acids with amines to prepare amides and peptides used as a model the reaction between benzoic acid and 2-phenylethylamine mediated by N-ethynyl-N-methyl-4-methylbenzenesulfonamide in dichloromethane at room temperature. Several possible pathways were investigated using density functional theory (DFT) calculations, and the proposed pathway. The reaction of five secondary amines (29a–e: 1-methylpiperazine, pyrrolidine, morpholine, 2-methylpiperidine, and diethylamine) with maleic anhydride was investigated experimentally and theoretically at the DFT level. Probable reaction pathways for the reaction between alcohols and dimethyl carbonate catalysed by dicobalt octacarbonyl, dicobalt octacarbonyl, were devised based on mathematical modelling techniques." @default.
