- W4244517572 abstract "This chapter focuses on single particle detection and tracking of fluorescent nanodiamonds (FNDs). A way to improve the sensitivity of detecting single FNDs in a noisy environment is to utilize the time-gating techniques. The ability to detect single FNDs allows a precise measurement for the number of nitrogen-vacancy (NV)- centers present in the individual particles. This is achievable by performing photon correlation spectroscopy, which measures the correlation functions of the emitters' fluorescence intensities with a Hanbury-Brown-Twiss interferometer. The slow movement of FNDs inside living cells opens an opportunity to track their rotational motions over time. This is achievable by recording the spin resonance spectra of the individual FND particles using the optically detected magnetic resonance (ODMR) technique. The chapter surveys several examples in each category of tracking single FNDs, whether it is in cells or organisms." @default.
