- W4244936006 abstract "Three studies were conducted to define more precisely the physical and temporal aspects of mating stimuli that are responsible for inhibiting sexual receptivity in the hamster. In the first study, sexually receptive females became completely unresponsive to vigorous mating attempts (20 consecutive min of no lordosis) after they received 1–3 hr of continuous mating stimulation from a series of sexually rested males. Nevertheless, 75% of these females exhibited a rapid, transient recovery of lordosis responding in subsequent hourly tests with males. In two additional studies, exposure to male intromission stimulation was found to be effective in reducing lordosis duration when given during short tests spaced at 1- or 2-hr intervals. However, the rate of decline in lordosis was not appreciably affected by the amount of intromission stimulation received at each test, the frequency of testing over an 8-hr period, or a 4-hr delay in the onset of testing. Mounting stimulation alone did not significantly reduce receptivity in this paradigm but mounts with vaginocervical cues from a simulated copulatory plug were equal in effectiveness to intromission stimulation. These studies provide no evidence for a close relationship between the amount of copulatory stimuli received by the female and the rate of decline in sexual receptivity or the incidence of recovery of sexual responsiveness after continuous mating. In addition, they suggest that male ejaculation, by leading to the deposition of a copulatory plug, may contribute to the mating-induced decline in sexual receptivity." @default.
