- W4245428297 abstract "The most famous legal positivist of this century was born in Prague. From 1883 until 1930 Kelsen lived in Vienna. He played a major role in the drafting of the Austrian Federal Constitution of 1920, particularly in the provisions creating a central constitutional court. From 1919 until 1930 he was a professor of Public and Administrative Law at the University of Vienna, as well as a member of the Austrian Constitutional Court. In 1930 the Constitutional Court justices were removed from office after a political conflict and Kelsen subsequently accepted a professorship in Public International Law in Cologne. In 1933 he was ousted by the Nazi regime on account of his Jewish ancestry. He accepted an offer to work at the Graduate Institute of International Studies in Geneva, where he stayed until his emigration to the United States in 1940. First he taught on a temporary basis at Harvard Law School, Wellesley College and the University of California. From 1945 until his retirement in 1952 he was a professor in political science at the University of California in Berkeley." @default.
