- W4245963669 abstract "In our study of Reformation and the theology of the Holy Spirit, we have attempted to bring Luther and Calvin much closer to each other in light of their theology of the Spirit. Despite disagreement and difference between the two reformers, we see more commonality in their theological framework of the Spirit when it comes to the role of the Spirit in creation, Trinity, spiritual life of Christ-union, ecclesial life, and discipleship in the socioeconomic sphere. Our hermeneutical principle in dealing with the reformers’ theology upholds a dialectical process of appropriating their meaningful insights for our own context as well as critically distancing ourselves from their limitations and mistakes. A theological method undertaken in this book has attempted to establish a mutually critical correlation between Reformation theology and a contextualizing interpretation in our ecumenical and global context. In our study, we do not seek simply to repeat and to reproduce the original meaning of the text for the sake of the reformation theology. Rather, interpretive imagination is critically involved as we seek to translate, interpret, and actualize the meaning of their texts into our own lifeworld. When the reformers’ texts encounter our lifeworld in a different time and place, the subject matter of Christian narrative— glad tidings of God’s grace in Christ under the guidance of the Holy Spirit—is rearticulated, renewed, and developed in a new and different way." @default.
