- W4245996295 abstract "In the acetylene formation from methane using an argon plasma jet reactor, effects of several significant operation factors on both methane conversion and acetylene yield have been investigated.In the case of the reactor of 21mm in diameter and 131mm in length, with increasing the plasma power, both the conversion and the yield increase and reach their highest values of 100% and ca. 85% at the same power, hereafter the latter decreases gradually. When the reactor diameter is more than 30mm, the maximum values of the conversion and the yield remarkably decrease. With increasing length of the reactor from ca. 60mm to 131mm, the yield slightly decreases, after a maximum, but there is no influence on the conversion. When the reactor length is less than ca. 60mm, an unfavorable reaction, methane-steam reforming, predominates. It was confirmed that reduction in the feed ratio of argon to methane at the same power per unit feed of methane results in increased conversion and yield. An experimental formula for the methane conversion, y, in terms of plasma power, Q0, argon plasma gas flow rate, FA, and methane feed rate, FM, has been determined as y=k(FM/FA+FM)1.00(Q0/FM)1.53, where k is a constant.The main features of these results can be explained qualitatively, assuming that the feed stream of methane is completely mixed with the hot stream of argon at the vicinity of anode nozzle.
