- W4247029774 abstract "<strong class=journal-contentHeaderColor>Abstract.</strong> The rapid response to the COVID-19 pandemic led to unprecedented decreases in economic activities, thereby reducing the pollutant emissions. A random forest (RF) model was applied to determine the respective contributions of meteorology and anthropogenic emissions to the changes in air quality. The result suggested that the strict lockdown measures significantly decreased primary components such as Cr (<span class=inline-formula>â</span>67â<span class=inline-formula>%</span>) and Fe (<span class=inline-formula>â</span>61â<span class=inline-formula>%</span>) in <span class=inline-formula>PM2.5</span> (<span class=inline-formula><i>p</i><0.01</span>), whereas the higher relative humidity (RH) and <span class=inline-formula>NH3</span> level and the lower air temperature (<span class=inline-formula><i>T</i></span>) remarkably enhanced the production of secondary aerosol, including <span class=inline-formula><math xmlns=http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML id=M9 display=inline overflow=scroll dspmath=mathml><mrow class=chem><msubsup><mi mathvariant=normal>SO</mi><mn mathvariant=normal>4</mn><mrow><mn mathvariant=normal>2</mn><mo>-</mo></mrow></msubsup></mrow></math><span><svg:svg xmlns:svg=http://www.w3.org/2000/svg width=29pt height=17pt class=svg-formula dspmath=mathimg md5hash=06a1e144313624090049b6627390d3e8><svg:image xmlns:xlink=http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink xlink:href=acp-21-8677-2021-ie00001.svg width=29pt height=17pt src=acp-21-8677-2021-ie00001.png/></svg:svg></span></span> (29â<span class=inline-formula>%</span>), <span class=inline-formula><math xmlns=http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML id=M11 display=inline overflow=scroll dspmath=mathml><mrow class=chem><msubsup><mi mathvariant=normal>NO</mi><mn mathvariant=normal>3</mn><mo>-</mo></msubsup></mrow></math><span><svg:svg xmlns:svg=http://www.w3.org/2000/svg width=25pt height=16pt class=svg-formula dspmath=mathimg md5hash=eb51cd45ba2a21283d090226a04e61ba><svg:image xmlns:xlink=http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink xlink:href=acp-21-8677-2021-ie00002.svg width=25pt height=16pt src=acp-21-8677-2021-ie00002.png/></svg:svg></span></span> (29â<span class=inline-formula>%</span>), and <span class=inline-formula><math xmlns=http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML id=M13 display=inline overflow=scroll dspmath=mathml><mrow class=chem><msubsup><mi mathvariant=normal>NH</mi><mn mathvariant=normal>4</mn><mo>+</mo></msubsup></mrow></math><span><svg:svg xmlns:svg=http://www.w3.org/2000/svg width=24pt height=15pt class=svg-formula dspmath=mathimg md5hash=9d8f7ee8bf88d657d75cdcf077dbe3e2><svg:image xmlns:xlink=http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink xlink:href=acp-21-8677-2021-ie00003.svg width=24pt height=15pt src=acp-21-8677-2021-ie00003.png/></svg:svg></span></span> (21â<span class=inline-formula>%</span>) (<span class=inline-formula><i>p</i><0.05</span>). The positive matrix factorization (PMF) result suggested that the contribution ratios of secondary formation (SF), industrial process (IP), biomass burning (BB), coal combustion (CC), and road dust (RD) changed from 36â<span class=inline-formula>%</span>, 27â<span class=inline-formula>%</span>, 21â<span class=inline-formula>%</span>, 12â<span class=inline-formula>%</span>, and 4â<span class=inline-formula>%</span> before the COVID-19 outbreak to 44â<span class=inline-formula>%</span>, 20â<span class=inline-formula>%</span>, 20â<span class=inline-formula>%</span>, 9â<span class=inline-formula>%</span>, and 7â<span class=inline-formula>%</span>, respectively. The rapid increase in the contribution ratio derived from SF to <span class=inline-formula>PM2.5</span> implied that the intermittent haze events during the COVID-19 period were characterized by secondary aerosol pollution, which was mainly contributed by the unfavorable meteorological conditions and high <span class=inline-formula>NH3</span> level." @default.
