- W4247035768 abstract "There exist many variables relevant to the experimental conditions and instrumental settings at every stage of a mass spectrometry (MS) experiment from sample preparation, sample introduction, separation, ionization, and identification and quantification. This chapter discusses each variable for the analysis of lipid species, except for those related to quantification. It talks about lipid extraction, the variations in lipid sample solutions, as well as the effects of these variations on MS analysis of lipids. For analysis of an equimolar mixture, the peak intensities of the ions that correspond to anionic lipids are always more abundant than those that correspond to phosphocholine-containing lipid adducts in the negative-ion mode under the condition. Ion-mobility MS (IM-MS) provides separation of lipid classes according to their charge properties, individual molecular species of a lipid class based on their molecular size, and isobaric/isomeric species possessing different conformational structures." @default.
