- W4247689067 abstract "SummarySymbiotic mutualisms between nematodes and other organisms have been largely unexplored. The general topic of mutualism is introduced and nematode examples are presented within a general classification scheme. The Wolbachia/ñlaroid mutualism is presented as a form of intracellular mutualism; the Fergusobia/Fergusonina mutualism as an example of intraorganismal mutualism; the SteinemematidãdXenorhabdus and Het-erorhabditidadPhotorhabdus mutualistic complexes as mutualisms between free-living organisms and the Bursaphelenchus xylophiluslMonochamus spp., B. cocophiluslRhynchophorus palmarum and B. seanilAnthophora bomboides stanfordiana associations as possible examples of mutualisms between populations. Non-symbiotic population mutualisms are not specifically addressed. Other recently reported nematode systems that are discussed within the context of this classification scheme include the association between members of the Xiphinema americanum group and the vertically transmitted, obligate, intracellular verrucommicrobium ‘Candidates Xiphinematobactef’ and the large radiation of marine free-living nematodes in the Stilbonematinae that exhibit an ectosymbiosis with their protobacterial symbionts akin to agriculture." @default.
