- W4247702564 abstract "Gram-negative rods are a large group of bacteria, and include many families, genera, and species. Most clinical isolates belong to the family Enterobacteriaceae. It is convenient to consider them in the following main groups: Enterobacteriaceae, non-Enterobacteriaceae acquired from the environment, and non-Enterobacteriaceae acquired from humans or animals. Escherichia coli belongs to the family Enterobacteriaceae, and has provided much of the material on which our knowledge of biochemical pathways is based. It is the most common cause of urinary tract infection, and an important cause of neonatal sepsis and meningitis. Pseudomonas aeruginosa lives in the environment, especially aquatic environments. It is a cause of pulmonary infection in individuals with cystic fibrosis, and of bacteremia in those with neutropenia. Haemophilus influenza belongs to the family of non-Enterobacteriaceae Gram-negative rods acquired from humans or animals. It is the most common cause of acute bacterial meningitis in young children." @default.
