- W4248117607 abstract "Abstract Research indicates that divorce can have short‐term and long‐term effects on children. Research shows, however, that children vary greatly in how they respond to divorce. Some children fare better after a divorce if they are removed from a highly conflicted family environment. Other children fare worse after a divorce, especially if their parents fight more after the divorce or they never saw the divorce coming and/or their parents had a good relationship. Still other children do not appear to be affected much at all by their parents’ divorce. The impact of divorce on children is a complex question that depends upon a host of complex situational circumstances. The most important factor in determining how children respond to divorce is parental conflict. Research suggests that many of the long‐term effects of divorce dissipate if conflict between former spouses is kept at a minimum." @default.
