- W4248428131 abstract "When possible, incisions should follow wrinkle lines; but if these are not readily evident, then RSTLs can be located with the pinch test or a circular excision can be used to determine the optimal direction of the final elliptical excision. Incisions and the resulting scars should never interfere with function or treatment priorities. Wrinkle lines and RSTLs largely coincide and should be used instead of Langer's lines for planning incisions. Langer developed his system of lines from studies done on cadavers. Because they were based on static forces, these lines are now only of historic interest, although Langer's work remains the cornerstone of the development of this science. However, many current textbooks today show and discuss wrinkle lines and RSTLs but call them Langer's lines. Well-planned excisions and incisions result in functionally and esthetically pleasing scars. Many a surgeon has been misjudged by a patient because of a poorly healed scar. We should endeavor to achieve the best scar possible in every instance." @default.
