Connal and co-workers have developed a simple, one-step procedure to afford an enzyme-inspired catalyst that contains the common functional motif present at the active site of many hydrolases—the catalytic triad—incorporated into a single unit. This enzyme-inspired catalyst is then easily immobilized onto a resin support and hydrophobically tuned to perform enzyme-like hydrolytic catalysis.
