- W4250236870 abstract "A mercapto-triazole compound, namely 4-salicylideneamino-3-phenyl-5-mercapto-1,2,4-triazole (SAPMT), was synthesized and its inhibition effect on the corrosion of mild steel in 1.0 M hydrochloric acid (HCl) solution was investigated by weight loss and electrochemical techniques. Results obtained revealed that SAPMT performed excellently as a corrosion inhibitor for mild steel in HCl solution. Potentiodynamic polarization studies showed that SAPMT suppressed both the anodic and cathodic processes and it inhibited the corrosion of mild steel by blocking the active site of the metal. The effect of changing functional groups of some triazole derivatives on their inhibition efficiency was also reported using potentiodynamic technique. It was found that SAPMT which includes phenyl, mercapto and azomethine groups in the same molecule has higher protection efficiency than the corresponding compounds which do not. The effect of temperature on the corrosion behavior of mild steel in 1.0 M HCl with addition of 0.5 g l−1 of SAPMT was studied in the temperature range from 25 to 75 °C. The associated activation corrosion and free adsorption energies were determined. Surface analyses were carried out to establish the mechanism of corrosion inhibition of mild steel in acidic media. The thermodynamic parameters for inhibiting process were calculated on the basis of statistical model. Interpretation of the results was given." @default.
