This book reviews the basics and principles of thermal ionization mass spectrometry (TIMS), present status of TIMS in analytical geochemistry, digestion methods of silicate materials, separation methods, and TIMS of the target elements. Element separation methods require the detailed knowledge of the behavior of elements in hydrofluoric acid. The target element or a group of similar elements can be separated with the recovery yield of 100%. In future, oneway research should be in the direction of simultaneous elemental separation and the other way should be in improving the amount of the target element as small as possible. This direction always requires comparison with TIMS and multicollector inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (MC-ICP-MS). Resins with high element selectivity will be developed and used more and more in column chemistry." @default.
