- W4251489343 abstract "The problem of optimally choosing the temperature T(z, t) as a function of time t and position z in a tubular fixed bed chemical reactor, so as to minimize the total yield of product over a fixed time period for a reaction-deactivation system with a slow decaying catalyst has been formulated for the case where the rate of catalyst decay is linearly dependent upon activity. Several characteristics of extremal control policies which supplement the theoretical characterization obtained for the case of general reaction-deactivation kinetics using Sirazetdinov and Degtyarev's maximum principle are indicated. Results are that the supplementary properties of the extremal controls for linear catalyst deactivation kinetics may be used to advantage to reduce the computational dimensionality in synthesizing the control policies. Numerical calculations are presented to illustrate this fact in the case of initial catalyst activity profiles which are not uniform nor continuous along the reactor bed. Le problème du choix optimal de température T(z, t) en fonction du temps t et de la position z dans un réacteur chimique tubulaire à couche fixe et qui maximalise la quantité totale de produit pour une période de temps définie a été formulé. Le système réactif considéré consiste en un catalyseur dont l'activité décroit lentement dans le temps à un taux qui dépend linéairement du niveau d'activité. Les politiques de contrôle optimal identifiées par l'intermé-diaire du principe du maximum de Sirazetdinov et Degtyarev complémentent les résultats obtenus pour le problème général de cinétique de réaction-déactivation. On montre comment les résultats complémentaires obtenus pour le cas d'une cinétique de déactivation linéaire peuvent être utilisés pour réduire significativement la complexité du problème de la synthèse de ces contrôles. Des calculs numériques illustrent ce fait dans le cas de profils d'activité de catalyseurs irrégulièrement distribués dans le réacteur." @default.
