- W4251769712 abstract "The thermodynamic concepts exergy and eco-exergy are defined. Eco-exergy can be applied to formulate a thermodynamic hypothesis for ecosystems. Support for this hypothesis is presented. It can for instance be applied to explain the sequence of microbiological oxidators (oxygen, nitrate, manganese (iv), iron (iii), sulfate, and carbon dioxide) and to explain that the most abundant nutrient is also the one that is cycling fastest. Eco-exergy can be shown to be equal to the biomass times the Kullbach’s measure of information. Eco-exergy is therefore a product of biological structure and information. The loss of eco-exergy by pollution can also be calculated." @default.
