Only 19 patients survived to hospital discharge after cardiopulmonary resuscitation, and half of these survivors had serious chronic sequelae. Not discussed at length, but equally disturbing, was the finding that only 14 patients had a documented discussion about resuscitation. Bedell and Delbanco, among (2) others, have reported similar findings.
