- W4252878765 abstract "This chapter defines terminology and construction methods for rubble stone, concrete masonry unit (CMU), and concrete foundation walls. It discusses the correlation between cracks and building movement. Rubble stone foundations are the most common type of foundations in homes built before 1915. The construction of a rubble stone wall begins by placing larger stones on top of one another, then filling the interstices with spalls or chips of stones, and finally adding mortar to fill in the crevices. A continuous poured concrete foundation/footer is constructed by first setting forms spaced to achieve wall widths required by local codes. The soil-bearing capacity is the capability of the soil to support the loads applied to the ground. A structure built on a solid foundation is critical to the integrity of the whole structure. The performance of the foundation wall is directly related to the amount of water/moisture penetration and the presence of water/moisture around the foundation and/or footer." @default.
