- W4252899218 abstract "The medical uses of polyurethanes are in many ways similar to more prosaic applications of foams, elastomers, coatings, and adhesives, and in certain ways very distinctive. The size of the medical polyurethane market is very small by the standards of the polyurethane industry. Approximately 3 million pounds of polyurethane are consumed per year in the making of catheters. Approximately 5 million pounds of polyurethanes per year are consumed making wound dressings. Volumes of polyurethanes used for medical implant applications requiring polyurethane to be absorbed or degraded by the body are very small. The highly specialized nature of applications requiring bioabsorbable polyurethanes removes many of the economic constraints associated with almost all other applications. Recent trends have suggested a significant reduction of interest in pursuit of patent assets directly associated with biomedical applications of polyurethanes." @default.
