- W4253419376 abstract "This chapter describes the occurrence and biosynthesis of trigonelline and related nicotinate metabolites. Trigonelline is synthesized from nicotinate which is a catabolite of pyridine nucleotides. The biosynthesis of trigonelline is, therefore, analogous to that of caffeine, which is derived from purine nucleotides. Although nicotinate utilized for trigonelline synthesis is provided by the pyridine nucleotide cycle, trigonelline is also derived from nicotinate originating from nicotinamide mononucleotide, which is produced by the de novo pathway. Calculations based on quinolinate phosphoribosyltransferase levels in young cotyledons and endosperm of caster bean indicate that the ricinine is formed from pyridine nucleotide cycle components in the cotyledons, such as nicotinate, which is synthesized in the endosperm. The biosynthesis of trigonelline and/or nicotinate N-glucoside is well established in all plant species. The alkaloid ricinine and half of the pyridine ring of nicotine are produced from nicotinate." @default.
