- W4253679058 abstract "[7758-09-0] NKO2 (MW 85.1) InChI = 1S/K.HNO2/c;2-1-3/h;(H,2,3)/q+1;/p-1 InChIKey = BXNHTSHTPBPRFX-UHFFFAOYSA-M (reagent used for the inversion of configuration of neopentyl-type alcohols, inversion of configuration of alcohols in certain carbohydrates (both via derived triflates), substitution with inversion of configuration of amines via disulfonylamides, nucleophilic aromatic nitration, diazotization, nitrosation, and nitration of nucleosides) Physical Data: mp 438 °C, unstable above 350 °C; d 1.915 g cm−3. Solubility: 3.12 g cm−3 in H2O, 0.044 g cm−3 in methyl alcohol, 0.003 g cm−3 in ethyl alcohol, and very soluble in liquid NH3, dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO), and dimethyl formamide (DMF). Form Supplied in: white or slightly yellow granules. Purification: a saturated solution of potassium nitrite can be made and the compound precipitated by cooling at 0 °C. The crystals can then be obtained by filtration. (This purification is designed to lower the nitrate impurity by a temperature-dependent difference in solubility.) Handling, Storage, and Precautions: avoid exposing to incompatible or combustible materials, moist air, water, and temperatures above 300 °C. Strong oxidizer; contact with inappropriate material may cause fire. Incompatible materials include acids, aluminum, amines, chlorates, hydrazine, permanganates, boron, amides, hypophosphites, sulfites, carbon, ammonium salts, iodides, mercury salts, and cyanides. Use with adequate ventilation and only in a chemical fume hood. Avoid contact with skin (corrosive) and eyes (irritant). Decomposition products are nitrogen oxides, do not store near combustible materials. Store in a cool, dry, well-ventilated area or in a tightly closed container, and away from incompatible substances. No information is available on the epidemiology, teratogenicity, mutagenicity, and neurotoxicity. Potassium nitrite is not listed by the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC). Toxicity (oral) rabbit LD50, 200 mg kg−1." @default.
