- W4253699992 abstract "AbstractThe Lighthouse for the Blind of Greece, founded by concerned citizens as a private initiative in 1947, has the goal of promoting both the vocational rehabilitation and the full social integration of the visually impaired. One of the most recent of many different activities undertaken by the Lighthouse was the creation, in 1984, of the Tactual Museum. The only one of its kind in Greece, this is a thought‐provoking project liable to interest many museum professionals, and indeed all concerned with museums as an educational resource for the disabled.At the European Conference on Museums and Disabled People held by the Fondation de France at Unesco Headquarters in November 1988, Museum met and interviewed Mrs Iphegenia Polydorou‐Benaki, Assistant Director of both the Lighthouse for the Blind and the Tactual Museum. Holder of diplomas in history of art from the Ecole du Louvre in Paris, in social work from the School of Social Work in Athens and in political science from the University of Athens, Mrs Polydorou‐Benaki brings to this innovative museum a broad range of social, psychological and cultural as well as educational insights." @default.
