- W4254031358 abstract "Experiments and theory on the desorption stimulated by excitation of an internal vibration of an adsorbate with resonant laser infrared radiation are reviewed and new data and results presented. Linear infrared spectra and adsorption isotherms of CH3F on NaCl are reported. Therefrom the fundamental quantum levels and parameters of a Morse adsorption potential are inferred. The laser-adsorbate coupling is described with Einstein's rate law and related to the linear absorption cross section, the relaxation rate to the spectral and desorption linewidth. The degree of resonant heating is estimated. The decay of adsorbates with energy above the desorption threshold along three desorption channels is discussed: phonon absorption by the adsorption bond vibration, phonon-aided and elastic tunneling. Geometric and energetic conditions for the couplings re stated and time-of-flight spectra presented. The measured desorption yield and rate are compared with values calculated on the basis of rate equations for the quantum level populations of the adsorbate." @default.
