- W4254100981 abstract "Magnetic field detection has vastly expanded as industry has utilized a variety of magnetic sensors to detect the presence, strength, or direction of magnetic fields not only from the Earth but also from permanent magnets, magnetized soft magnets, and the magnetic fields associated with current. These sensors are used as proximity sensors, speed and distance measuring devices, navigation compasses, and current sensors. This chapter describes a varied set of applications that exploit specific characteristics of these sensors. It briefly reviews the main properties of commercially available Hall magnetic sensors and of thin-film ferromagnetic magnetoresistors. Nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy and electron spin resonance spectroscopy are two widely used spectroscopic techniques to infer structure and properties of complex molecules. Superconductive quantum interference devices (SQUIDs) are most sensitive devices for the detection of magnetic flux with energy resolutions approaching the quantum limit. The chapter presents numerous examples of the successful use of SQUIDs for nondestructive evaluation." @default.
