Ocular Manifestations of Familial Transthyretin AmyloidosisAmerican Journal of OphthalmologyVol. 186PreviewWe read with interest the study by Reynolds and associates1 on the ocular features of familial transthyretin (TTR) amyloidosis. In a recent article,2 we noted that during pars plana vitrectomy for vitreous amyloidosis, the vitreous appeared to be cutting like waxy paper and strong vitreoretinal adhesion existed over the retinal vessels.2 We also noted perivascular whitish deposits in all cases. Systemic amyloidosis is also known to manifest as perivascular sheathing.3 It would be interesting to know if Reynolds and associates had a similar experience during vitrectomy in such cases.
