- W4254693199 abstract "Abstract The development and change of one's socio-occupational status comprise an on-going process that continues throughout a person's lifetime. One can hypothetically single out four periods in this process that differ in content, significance, and intensity. The first stage (examined in Chapter 1) is a preliminary one, when the prerequisites for the subsequent choice of a vocation are only beginning to take shape; it encompasses the entire period of upbringing and education in general education school. (1) The second period, to which Chapter 2 of this work is devoted, is characterized by the aggregation of groups of youth according to vocational specialization, either through training at specialized and vocational training schools or through direct involvement in the system of social production. The result of the socially useful experience accumulated in the preceding period is manifested in this process. The first [postschooling] dispersal of youth immediately after graduation from school takes place in the second period. The next several years, during which intensive redistribution takes place and a relatively fixed social status is formed, can be regarded as the third period; this stage is examined in Chapters 3 and 4. The relative stabilization of the social status of the majority of youth marks the inauguration of the fourth period, the period in which certain modifications in socio-occupational affiliation take place that are expressed primarily in a rise in occupational and skill level gradually attenuated in a given direction as a person grows older." @default.
