- W4254756886 abstract "There has been an increasing interest in the application of metamaterials recently due to their tailored characteristics. Driven by the development of nanophotonics, metamaterials appear to provide a promising approach for enhanced performance. This article provides a definition for metamaterials and explains their nature as negative index materials. It also describes how the properties of such materials can be tuned in various applications, starting from energy applications to biomedical applications. The interesting properties can be realized when metamaterials operate in the terahertz region, thus making them suitable for various imaging devices. This article emphasizes that the desired application as well as the material parameters are to be determined before the metamaterials’ structure is altered." @default.
