Park, MD, EditorView Large Image Figure ViewerDownload Hi-res image Download (PPT)When we were asked to be guest editors for this Foot and Ankle issue of Clinics in Sports Medicine, we appreciated the magnitude of this amazing opportunity to share the expertise of our Orthopedic Foot and Ankle community with our Sports Medicine colleagues around the country. Just as our Sports Medicine colleagues have revolutionized ACL reconstruction, cartilage regeneration, arthroscopy, and rotator cuff repair, our Foot and Ankle members have led the charge for advancing syndesmotic fixation, surgical treatment of ankle instability and turf toe injuries, tendon transfers for foot drop, and innovative approaches to fracture fixation and tendon repair. As we are both fortunate to work closely with athletes of all levels, we have been amazed and humbled to watch many of our players return to the playing field after sustaining career-threatening foot and ankle injuries. Our subspecialty has continued to play an increasingly critical role in the evaluation and treatment of collegiate and professional athletes, and we are honored to be a small part of the team that cares for these patients. Collaboration between Sports Medicine and Foot and Ankle Orthopedic Surgeons is the key to improving the care we can deliver to our athletic patient population. We have carefully enlisted some of the true leaders in our field to contribute to this Special Foot and Ankle issue of Clinics in Sports Medicine, and we would like to thank the authors for their dedication and time taken away from family. We hope that like us, you will learn from these in-depth reviews of these carefully curated foot and ankle topics specifically focused on the athlete that challenge and frustrate us every day. Anish R. Kadakia, MD: My primary gratitude is to my wife Sakina and my four children, who have had to make the largest sacrifice in order to allow me to pursue my academic interests. A most heartfelt thank you to my co-editor Joseph Park, who helped make this issue come to fruition. My gratitude to all the authors who contributed to this issue for all their time away from family to write these well-researched and focused articles for the athlete. Thank you, Mark Miller, for the opportunity once again to be a part of a wonderful academic endeavor. Joseph S. Park, MD: I would like to thank all of my teachers and mentors who have helped and guided me throughout my training and career. I am forever indebted to the Orthopedic Surgery faculty of NYU Hospital for Joint Diseases and to the remarkable Foot and Ankle Divisions at Union Memorial Hospital and Mercy Hospital in Baltimore. I am grateful to the many talented authors who made this issue possible, as well as my coeditor, Anish Kadakia, for taking on this challenge with me. Thank you to my Chairman at the University of Virginia, Dr Bobby Chhabra, for your unwavering support of our Foot and Ankle Division and Fellowship, and to my Sports Medicine partners who have embraced the role our specialty takes in the care of our student athletes. I feel very fortunate to have talented physician and PA partners in the Foot and Ankle Division at UVA. A special thanks goes to the Consulting Editor of Clinics in Sports Medicine, Dr Mark Miller, a true giant in the world of Orthopedic Education. I am eternally grateful to my parents and sisters, for their guidance and love. Finally, I want to thank my amazing wife, Ann Marie, who has supported me throughout this journey and has tolerated the long hours and last minute deadlines that always seem to encroach on our family life. Isabelle, Stephen, and Caroline are a testament to your dedication and patience as a mother, and I feel truly blessed every day." @default.
