- W4254822961 abstract "Added reverberation has been found to be useful for many purposes in sound recording and broadcasting. In recent years organs, which traditionally have been heard in large, reverberant rooms, have been installed rather frequently in small studios and parlors having very short reverberation time. Modern systems for adding reverberation to sound have generally used a driving transducer, a multiple time-delay means, one or more pickup transducers, and mixing and amplifying circuits. Much of the complication and expense of such a system is avoided in the reverberation devices described in this paper. One type consists of an otherwise conventional direct-radiator loudspeaker, coupled mechanically to multiply resonant helical delay lines mounted in front of the cone. Vibrational energy absorbed by the reverberation coils directly from the loudspeaker voice-coil is transmitted back to the loudspeaker cone and radiated at a later time as reverberant sound. In a second type similar reverberation coils are coupled mechanically to a separate cone which is smaller than the loudspeaker cone and mounted concentrically in front of it. Attenuation of the direct sound radiated through the reverberation cone and around its edge is barely perceptible Yet acoustical coupling between the cones supplies enough energy to the reverberation coils for clearly audible reverberant sound to be radiated from the reverberation cone." @default.
