- W4254928204 abstract "This chapter discusses the ethnopharmacological properties, phytochemistry, and culture conditions of the Coptis species. Coptis chinensis Franch. rhizome (Fam. - Ranunculaceae) is very commonly used in Japanese traditional medicine as antipyretic, antidote, and antidysentery. C. chinensis rhizomes were also known as a common component of traditional Chinese herbal formulae. This species has been used as a remedy for the treatment of inflammatory diseases in folk medicine. Berberine can be obtained from Coptis rhizome and is of pharmaceutical significance to investigate callus culture of this plant for berberine production. The roots of Cineraria deltoidea and C. teeta contain maximum concentration of jatrorrhizine and berberine. A high density culture method has been developed to increase the yield of berberine from highly productive cells of C. japonica. The maximum density of C. japonica cells could be used in ordinary batch culture." @default.
