- W4255943579 abstract "This chapter presents examples of springs studies in karst areas of two highly productive aquifers (Upper Floridan aquifer and Edwards aquifer) and a third nonkarst (unconsolidated rock) area. Studies in these areas have combined the use of geochemical, hydrologic, and other tools to evaluate sources of nitrate contamination of springs, changes in spring water quantity over time, and to provide critical information for water-quality restoration and protection efforts. Springs in northeast Spain have been an important part of the cultural and natural heritage of the region. Groundwater withdrawals for agricultural, industrial, and drinking water supply in spring basins or springsheds have resulted in significant reductions in spring flow, changes of springs from flowing perennially to ephemerally, or the complete disappearance of springs in many areas. Effective springs management must include better protection of recharge areas to aquifers by regulating water use and adopting land-use practices that do not adversely affect water quality." @default.
