This article presents experimental results of simultaneous particle tracking and fluid flow measurements of dilute particles plumes with varying particle size and density. While the settling speed of the plumes is found to be enhanced by an increase of the particle concentration, their motion relative to the fluid is entirely unaffected. The energy transfer from particles to the fluid scales linearly with their concentration and is more effective for smaller and lighter particles." @default.
