- W4281552004 abstract "As the overuse and misuse of hazardous chemical substance contribute to environmental pollution, it is imperative to explore facile and eco-friendly method for the synthesis of nanostructures. In this regard, a novel hydrothermal assisted green synthetic protocol was adopted for the synthesis of CuONPs, using purified Cirsium arvense plant extract and ascorbic acid. The synthesized nanoparticles were systematically characterized by UV–vis, FTIR, XRD, SEM, HRTEM, XPS and EDS. The biogenic CuONPs are utilized efficiently for important applications, such as antibacterial and photocatalytic activities. It is revealed that the CuONPs displays enhanced photocatalytic action, where complete degradation of Rhodamine B (RhB) was observed within 30 min in the presence of visible light irradiation. Moreover, the results demonstrate that biogenic CuONPs has shown best antibacterial action by inhibiting the growth of S. aureus and E. coli with zone of inhibition 18(±0.3) mm and 21(±0.4) mm respectively. The best photocatalytic and biomedical response of CuONPs seem to be the result of high potential reducing and capping property of plant phytochemicals. More importantly, the synthesized CuONPs are not only active for ROS generation but also show no hemolytic activity.
