- W4281702914 abstract "Scabies is an eight-legged mite which belongs to the phylogenetic class of arachnids, which also includes spiders and scorpions. More generally it is an arthropod, an invertebrate with an exoskeleton encompassing a large number of species including six-legged insects as well as crustaceans better known to humans as food in the forms of lobsters, crab, and shrimp, and the like. And most generically, it belongs to the animal kingdom. This chapter describes the physical characteristics and life cycle of scabies which varies according to the sex of the mite. The female scabies mite burrows into the skin where she lays her eggs, and constantly moves forward to seek nutrients while simultaneously evading the host immune system. The mating habits of scabies are discussed as well as behavior of the mite when present in warm and humid (tropical), climates." @default.
