- W4281710390 abstract "Background Atypical Parkinsonian Syndromes (APS) are a rare group of neurodegenerative diseases comprising of Progressive Supranuclear Palsy (PSP), Multiple System Atrophy (MSA) and Corticobasal Syndrome (CBS). There are current guidelines recommending Multidisciplinary team care in APS, but there have been no systematic reviews investigating this. Methods Systematic searches of Medline, EMBASE, CINAHL and Open Grey were conducted and litera- ture which met the inclusion criteria were further screened. Results 887 results were found across the 4 databases of which 192 remained after title screening and 70 after abstract screening. Of these 70 papers, 9 were included in the final review; data was synthesised from them along with the case studies and conference abstracts. The MDT papers demonstrated benefits of a multifaceted approach in the patients’ physical symptoms, along with an improved quality of life and reduced caregiver burden. However, the papers generally lacked methodological rigour, with a common deficiency being the absence of a control group and small sample sizes. Conclusion MDT care and its various facets seem to have benefits for patients suffering from APS, however the lack of statistical power in the current literature makes this conclusion difficult to draw. Further research of higher quality is recommended. un1g16@soton.ac.uk" @default.
