- W4281785904 abstract "Through the sharing of knowledge, one can develop an aesthetic experience beyond the immediacy of simple curiosity. The past two decades have witnessed the balancing of operational policies and guidelines, with an exponential development of state-of-the-art scientific research. At the same time, society at large including professionals, academics and decision-makers have been engulfed in the rise of image-driven social media. The seductive behaviour of image-driven media that values image over consideration and instantaneity over longevity is undeniable. Architecture, and the rise of the Pinterest architect, has undoubtedly been at the forefront of this phenomenon, having engaged in this aesthetic shift with postmodernism. Echoing Paul Valery who had suggested that Plato could have used his cave as a pinhole camera, probing ‘the nature of our knowledge and the essence of our ideas’, we argue that the relationship between image and architecture can be re-examined. This chapter explores how the acceleration of processes allowed by the digital revolution influences aspects of the architectural realm. In this perspective, we discuss the effects of image-driven/image-driving platforms and instant communication on heritage sustainability and on the production of future architectural heritage. This chapter investigates strategies centred on the architectural project to propose some critical reflection on the exhausting impact of a hyper-visual culture on cultural heritage preservation." @default.
