- W4283073313 abstract "Hydroxyapatites (HAs) have many properties such as a high capacity for adsorption of molecules, transport of charges, exchange capacity of Ca 2+ ions, a rich preparation chemistry, which allows to obtain multifunctional materials, and biocompatibility properties. All of these properties can be used in whole or in part in two promising fields of research, which are electrocatalysis and photocatalysis. In photocatalysis, although HAs alone and unmodified are of little interest, the possibility of doping them or of coupling them to photocatalysts brings new interesting properties, thanks to the large specific surface area, which they develop for the treatment of water and air. In electrocatalysis, the capacities of HA ceramics to transport charges lead to conductivity properties, which, combined with their rich surface chemistry and the large specific surface area that they develop, make it an attractive material for applications in this field. Applications range from sensors for the analysis of hazardous compounds to biosensors, with HAs being biocompatible, to the manufacture of electrodes for the oxidation of alcohols in fuel cells or even to the development of efficient electrolyzer for the storage of energy.
