- W4283170050 abstract "TYPE: Late Breaking Abstract TOPIC: Chest Infections PURPOSE: The aim of our study is to evaluate the correlation between viral load and syntoms in patients affected by covid19 pneumonia METHODS: We recruited 97 patients (60 males and 37 females) with covid-19 pneumonia, at the U.O.C. Pneumotisiologia Federico II, Monaldi Hospital (Naples), from November 2020 to May 2021. We created a score, in which we considered 10 parameters: Loss of taste, loss of smell, loss of appetite, body temperature >37.5°C, pharyngodynia, polyarthritis, polymyalgia, asthenia, gastrointestinal symptoms, headache. For each symptom we assigned one point, obtaining a score between 0 points and 10 points. The viral load was quantized by a threshold curve. RESULTS: The most common symptoms were asthenia (60 patients / 97 patients), headache (50/97), and loss of taste (45/97). Most patients (60%) had a score between 5 and 9; only 2 patients had a score of 10. The threshold curve showed values between 14 and 44.2 n°CT. We found a correlation between the viral load and the symptoms presented: patients with lower viral load had a lower symptom score. CONCLUSIONS: in this preliminary study, we found a statistically significant correlation between the viral load on nasopharyngeal swab with threshold curve and symptom score of the patients. CLINICAL IMPLICATIONS: Clinical implicactions: The correlation between viral load and symptom score could be useful in identifying potential patients who could have a worse outcome. DISCLOSURE: Nothing to declare." @default.
