- W4283269718 abstract "The effect of grain size on the ductile-to-brittle fracture behavior in pure titanium sheets was investigated by building the connection between the defect development and the microstructure evolution. X-ray computed tomography results indicated that the initial defects grow into tiny void clusters with high sphericity in fine-grain (27 μm) specimens. As the grain size increases to 104 μm, the defects changed into large isolated penny-shaped cracks in the contrast. The twin fragmentation and the formation of fine dynamically recrystallized (DRXed) grains resulting from twinning-induced dynamic recrystallization (TDRX) were observed during the failure of the fine-grained specimen. The void nucleation was attributed to the high misorientation difference between DRXed grains. Meanwhile, the TDRX region further expanded accompanied by the void growth . With the increase of grain size, the TDRX phenomenon gradually disappeared. Thus, cleavage cracks propagated after the crystal lattice rotation of elongated grains, showing brittle transgranular fracture in coarse-grain specimens." @default.
