- W4285125429 abstract "Functionalization of the surface and edges of graphene and its derivatives is an important strategy to improve the scope of these materials for potential applications. The functionalization can be both reversible and irreversible. Reversible functionalization is typically done by noncovalent interactions, while irreversible functionalization is done by covalent interactions and element doping. The reversibility or irreversibility of graphene functionalization is dependent on several factors like binding affinity, the type of functional groups, solvent effects, the distance of separation between the graphene sheet and the functional group, size, geometry of functional groups, and the curvature in the case of wrinkled graphene. Different types of reversible and irreversible functionalization of graphene and its derivatives impart different properties and are targeted for specific applications in chemistry, biology, materials design, and energy devices. We summarize various ways and methods for the reversible and irreversible functionalization of graphene and its derivatives in this contribution." @default.
