- W4285131799 abstract "The economic development of any country is significantly dependent on its energy supply and security. Biomass is still predominantly used as the primary form of energy in many rural settings in developing countries for cooking and heating. However, biomass resources are distributed worldwide and can be directed for clean and affordable energy generation; thus, every developing country can harness their bioresources sustainably for energy and electricity production. More than 13% of the world population do not have access to electricity and modern energy services, of which over 80% population are from low-income developing countries. Consequently, biomass utilization has been receiving immense research and policy attention for electricity production. The bioelectricity production from Asia is currently estimated about 38% of total global production (637 TWh). This chapter focuses on the current status and future potential of bioelectricity generation in south Asian developing countries, particularly India, Bangladesh, and Pakistan. The chapter also discusses the available technologies for bioelectricity generation from biomass with their respective advantages and disadvantages. Finally, the chapter suggests few recommendations for enhancing future bioelectricity generation." @default.
