- W4285133636 abstract "Many microorganisms populate the gastrointestinal tract (GIT) and changes in gut microbiota can interfere with health maintenance or the development of the disease process. This chapter compiles experimental and clinical findings using probiotics to treat or prevent the main pathologies affecting the GIT. The pieces of evidence point to the beneficial effects of probiotics in diseases such as mucositis, gastroesophageal reflux disease, gastritis, chronic constipation, inflammatory bowel diseases, and irritable bowel syndrome. Despite the promising studies demonstrating the actions of probiotics in GIT diseases, their use in clinical practice is still limited, as it is necessary to fully attest to their safety and efficacy in specific gastrointestinal pathologies." @default.
