Cryogenic valves in LNG plants are expected to be operated for a long period of time, typically between 20 and 30 years in an extreme low temperature, and high pressure in many cases. It is very important that the valve functions properly and accurately without any failure during the life time operation without any leakage. Failure of the valve during operation could have various reasons such as soft or metallic materials failure and corrosion, internal or external leakage from the valve, inappropriate design and manufacturing, poor assembly and so on. All above mentioned failures of the valves cause maintenance or replacement of the valves. Maintenance and replacement of the valves including cryogenic valves during the operation is very costly because it can lead to process or plant shut down, loss of asset and replacing a part or the entire valve. In addition, failure of the valve and leakage of a hazardous, highly pressurized and potentially flammable fluid outside the valve has health, safety and environmental (HSE) issues such as polluting the environment and damage to the health of the personnel who works on site. This chapter focuses on different types of tests for cryogenic valves including those that are performed at ambient temperature as well as cryogenic temperature. Different tests like shell test, closure or seat test, backseat test are fully explained in this chapter. In addition, specific cryogenic tests such as thermal shock test is covered. Different test parameters such as test fluid, test pressure and temperature, extension of tests, minimum test duration and acceptance criteria are explained." @default.
