- W4285144047 abstract "After neural injuries such as spinal cord injury (SCI), motor control might be severely affected and the communication between brain and spinal cord disrupted. Neuroprosthetics can be used to decode cortical activity and bypass the lesion, either by stimulating a muscle or the spinal cord below the level of injury. Importantly, precisely timed stimulation will ultimately enhance volitional control and quality of life of neural-impaired patients. The understanding and evidence of adaptive neuroplasticity as the result of task-specific training following neural injuries has prompted the development of robotic devices for rehabilitation, which allow intensive, repetitive, and more effective training sessions. The combination of neuroprosthetics and robotics can be used to customize interventions that meet specific needs of patients who suffered neural damages. For instance, hybrid robotics and neuroprosthetics have enabled humans with some sort of motor disability to enhance their motor performance. This chapter covers some of these novel neurotechnologies, with a special focus on hybrid neuroprosthetics and robotics for associative neurorehabilitation." @default.
